How do I know if it's time?
Signs You Should Call Your MD/CNM & Go to the Hospital
When contractions are at least five minutes apart, which last at least 45-60 seconds for at least one hour, and are consistent in feel. **
Beyond First Birth:
When contractions are at least 10 minutes apart, which last at least 30-45 seconds, for at least 30-45 minutes.**
** For accuracy, evaluate contractions while sitting or lying down rather than while walking.
Rupture of Membranes:
If you think your bag of waters has broken, note the time, amount and color of the fluid.
If you are experiencing bright red bleeding.
NOTE - You should always call your MD/CNM before coming to the hospital. This will allow him/her to give you any specific instructions he/she may have and to avoid an unnecessary stop in the Emergency Room.
