The American Diabetes Association will once again take over Oakdale Mall in Johnson City to walk with a purpose

Binghamton, NY - This year, more than 400 area residents will come together to be part of the Stop Diabetes® movement at the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes on November 4th at 9:30 am at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City, NY. The one-day signature fundraising walk will benefit the American Diabetes Association. Every dollar raised through "Step Out" plays an important role in supporting the Association's mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

"Diabetes is a devastating disease that touches us all," said Kris Alexich, ADA Manager for the Step Out Walk.  "Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is such a wonderful event for friends, families and businesses to come together and help celebrate the lives of our Red Striders (individuals with diabetes).  The camaraderie and spirit that is enjoyed by participating in this event is priceless."

Today, there are nearly 26 million Americans-including 359,000 located in Upstate New York whohave diabetes. While an estimated 19 million have been diagnosed, unfortunately, 79 million people are unaware that they have the disease.  If current trends continue, one in three American adults will have diabetes by 2050.

Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is an event for the whole family, or for anyone who enjoys the feeling of being part of a community. It's an event for those who want to join the Association's family and help change the future of diabetes.  National sponsors include Novo Nordisk, Walgreens, Kay's Jewelers, Cary's® Sugar Free Syrup, Equal® 0 Calorie Sweetener, PureVia® All Natural Zero Calorie Sweetener and Dignity® Memorial Network. Be part of the Stop Diabetes movement and start raising money today!  To register, volunteer or find out more information, please visit or call 1-888-DIABETES X3665.  Together we can stop diabetes. One step at a time.
