Lourdes Hospital Receives Magnet Recognition Re-designation

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Lourdes Hospital is proud to announce that it has received re-designation as a Magnet recognized organization.  Magnet Recognition┬« for Nursing Excellence is the highest level of acknowledgement that the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, can bestow upon healthcare organizations.

Lourdes is one of 386 healthcare organizations world-wide that have earned Magnet Recognition and one of 17 in New York State to have received this prestigious designation.

On August 16th, Lois Kerchner, PhD, RN, a member of the Executive Committee of the Commission on Magnet Recognition formally notified David Patak, CEO and President of Lourdes and Linda Miller, RN, MS, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President of Operations and Chief Nursing Officer of Lourdes' re-designation. Magnet re-designation recognizes organizations for sustained nursing and organizational excellence.

"What this means to patients and our community is that when they come to Lourdes Hospital, they are receiving the highest quality healthcare by an organization committed to excellence.  Many thanks to our nurses, all of our associates and medical staff for their dedication and commitment," said David Patak.

"We are very proud to be able to demonstrate excellence in the care we provide to our patients, their families and the community we serve.  Our passion for excellence is the core of our Nursing Professional Practice Model and reflects our reason for being," commented Linda Miller.

The Magnet Recognition Program┬« was established by the American Nurses Association in 1990, after a 1983 study by the American Academy of Nursing identified "magnet" factors in hospitals that attracted and retained well-qualified nurses.  According to ANCC, nurses are critical to the delivery of quality healthcare and successful patient outcomes.

Lourdes is a community, not-for-profit, hospital and regional cancer center sponsored by Ascension Health and rooted in the tradition of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent DePaul.  Lourdes' goal is to provide the highest quality healthcare to all who need it, particularly care for the poor and vulnerable. Lourdes commits to promoting a healthier community through collaboration with Medical Staff and members of the communities it serves.
