Hockey 4 Hope to Benefit for the Geller Oncology Fund
Hockey 4 Hope played their 7th annual charity game on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 7:00 PM at the SUNY Broome Ice Center in Binghamton. An estimated 500 people attended the flagship event hosted by the Constance Foundation. Hockey 4 Hope is an annual charity hockey game whose proceeds are donated to the Geller Oncology Fund of Lourdes Hospital, Make-A-Wish Central New York as well as individuals in need in an effort to alleviate the financial burden associated with cancer.
Brian Laing, President and founder of the Constance Foundation states: “Each year, we offer 38 spots for players with all 38 spaces being filled within 3 minutes of opening registration...we have players from all over, including California, Florida, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania. We have all talents from retired professionals and college players, to weekend warriors.”
In addition to the hockey game, the Constance Foundation sponsored a Paint the Ice night at the Ice Center right before the Hockey 4 Hope game was played. Messages of hope, love, memories and encouragement were painted on the ice by area residents in honor of loved ones. The Hockey 4 Hope game was played over these messages.
It was an honor for the Constance Foundation to have a local Make-A-Wish benefactor drop the ceremonial puck. Elliott was escorted onto the ice by survivor Sean Gamsby. The ceremonial face-off included survivors Mark Laskoski and Craig Bland. The National Anthem was performed by Rebecca Heath with the B.C Celtic Pipes & Drums completing the Opening Ceremony.
The Lourdes Foundation is continually grateful to Hockey 4 Hope and the Constance Foundation for their hard work year after year in making this a great event to raise money for the Geller Oncology Fund. Money from the Geller Oncology Fund is used to address the extraordinary needs of our patients being treated for cancer at Lourdes Hospital and Broome Oncology. We thank you for your dedication to this event!
Hockey 4 Hope is owned and operated by the Constance Foundation, a 501c3. All donations are tax deductible.
