Flood Wall Progress

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

Flood wall construction in front of the Ozanam and DePaul entrances is nearing completion. The fencing around this area is expected to be removed by Monday, January 4th. Flood gates for this portion of the flood wall will be installed at a later date.

The flood gates behind the Lourdes Tower (on the Lourdes Road side of the hospital) are scheduled to be installed the week of January 11th. The installation should take about 15 days. Once the installation begins, a temporary change in the current traffic pattern will be in effect.

Emergency Department (ED)

Interior work on the ED project continues to progress quickly. Much of the drywall, electrical, and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) work is complete or currently in progress. This phase of the ED construction is expected to be complete by May 2010. The second phase of work is expected to begin in May or June 2010.

Flood Wall

Four of the flood gates arrived last week. These flood gates will be installed on the Lourdes Road side of the hospital and behind the hospital power plant. Installation, mostly staging and preparation, of the gates is slated to begin the week of December 21st. It will take about 14 days to install each gate. Please be aware of changes in traffic flow and additional workers/equipment in the area.

Construction of the flood wall has been progressing well. At this point in time, the hospital is about 65% protected in the event of a flood. By early January, the hospital should be completely protected by the flood wall on the Lourdes Roadside of the hospital past the power plant. Flood wall construction will resume in March and it is anticipated that the flood wall will be complete by the end of April.
