hospice_logo.jpgLourdes is offering a training program for people interested in working as volunteers with Lourdes Hospice. Volunteers play a vital role in the Hospice program at Lourdes by providing care and support for terminally ill patients, their families and their friends.

Weekend training sessions will be held from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, November 2, 3, 9 and 10 at the hospice office, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal.

A number of topics are covered during the training, including the history and philosophy of hospice care, communication skills and psychological issues. After completing the training and requirements, volunteers have the opportunity to assist in a number of areas including home care, delivery and errands, meals, bereavement, nursing homes, inpatient, office duties and more.

If you would like to volunteer, contact Bettye Canestaro, Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, at 584-9159 to schedule a brief initial interview.
