The Lourdes Nursing Leadership Team encourages shared
decision-making. Nursing staff hold key leadership roles and
potential leaders are mentored. The nursing structure facilitates
staff engagement by utilizing the expertise of those who provide
patient care.
Nursing staff have opportunities to serve on unit practice
councils, task forces, nursing committees, hospital committees, and
Ascension Health committees.
We encourage certification in a specialty and reimburse our
nurses when they achieve certification. All board certified nurses
automatically are eligible to apply to the Professional Nurse
Advancement and Recognition Program for recognition at the
proficient level.
We encourage nurses to continue their education and provide many
options. We have onsite Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of
Science (MS) in Nursing programs through Keuka College. We provide
tuition assistance and staff may select from the following options:
(1) Direct Billing - Broome Community College or Binghamton
University; (2) Tuition Advance - tuition and fees, but not books;
or (3) Reimbursement - paid to staff member after successful
completion of class.
Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) are encouraged to participate in
quarterly Advanced Practice Nurse Council dinner meetings.
Pertinent agenda items include the role of APNs at Lourdes,
practice issues, peer review, and continuing education.
Lourdes attracts talented, dedicated, and caring professional
nurses to all levels of our organization. We strive to provide our
nurses with opportunities and incentives to be creative, continue
their education and innovate. Each nurse's contribution is valuable
and plays an important role in achieving the high quality of care
provided by our organization.
