Because you will be on a dedicated unit
with other Joint Academy participants, you'll find an environment
of encouragement and camaraderie as you all work toward improving
your mobility and function with your new pain free joint(s).
You will enjoy the benefits of both individualized
therapy and group therapy. The individualized therapy will
allow our staff to focus on any specific challenges you may be
having, but it is the group therapy that you will look forward to
and enjoy the most. The dynamics of this group will allow for
relationships to develop over the course of your short hospital
stay. Patients encourage and push each other to regain mobility and
function.
One of the main reasons our patients do
so well is that we do not treat you like you are sick. We certainly
realize that your total joint surgery is a significant event in
your life and that it is to be taken very seriously - but at the
same time it is very important for you get up and get going as soon
as you are medically capable of doing so. With that in mind -
mobility and rehabilitation are the focus of your
inpatient stay.
Each person's recovery follows its own schedule. You may need an
assistive device for a few weeks after the operation. Most people
gradually increase in their activities as recovery progresses.
Graduation (Discharge)
Most of our patients are able to be discharged on their fourth
day in the hospital. In the event that you are not ready for
discharge or cannot be discharged to home there is no reason to
worry. Our staff's primary concern is your safe discharge to a
setting that will facilitate your continued recovery and eventual
return home.
Home Health Care and Outpatient
Physical Therapy are among the services available through
Lourdes after you have been discharged.
