Advanced Podiatric Training

Podiatry ResidentLourdes sponsors a residency program for Podiatric medicine, providing Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) the opportunity to advance their clinical skills under the supervision of one of the most prominent podiatrists in the field, Dr. Guido LaPorta.

Approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, this limb reconstruction program provides comprehensive training in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery, podiatric medicine and wound care, and particular training in external fixation.  Externship positions are available and encouraged.

Residency Curriculum

The curriculum encompasses current podiatric office and hospital-based medicine practice, wound care, limb salvage, trauma, and elective surgery with an emphasis
on reconstructive forefoot and rearfoot surgery.

Podiatry ResidentsResidents will complete a cadaver workshop as part of their training. In addition to Wound Care Center, peri-operative consults and private office experiences, residents are responsible for in-house patient management as well as staffing and managing the Primary Care Network Foot Clinic.

The rotation schedule provides residents with experience in a core of medicine rotations as well as general, vascular, plastic, and orthopedic trauma surgery. The residency training program offers a well-developed curriculum with affiliations at several local hospitals, medical centers, and outpatient surgery centers. Residents easily achieve surgical number completion.

Select residents will have the opportunity to attend a prestigious three-month rotation focusing on limb deformity correction at the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD.
