Some
people require specialized, aggressive care to heal their wounds. If your
wound has not become significantly better in one month or completely
healed in two months, look to the Lourdes Wound Care Program.
The Wound Care Program is a unique outpatient treatment center that
uses a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of chronic
non-healing wounds. Therapeutic treatment plans are tailored to the
individual needs of each patient. The Wound Care Program has been
successful in promoting the healing of wounds that previously resisted
healing and in reducing amputations.
The Program
Lourdes Wound Care Program's team of doctors, nurses, and other
providers will evaluate your wound and review your medical history and general
health. You may have special tests to provide information about the flow
of blood and oxygen to your wound. The Wound Care team will develop a
treatment plan based on your special needs. The healing progress will be
evaluated at each follow-up visit until healing occurs. In addition to
regular visits during your course of treatment, we will provide you with
education to help prevent recurrence of the wound. A post-discharge visit
will be scheduled 30 days after healing to check on your status.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Program
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical
treatment that involves delivering high doses of oxygen to the body.
It is done by breathing 100% oxygen through special head gear while
inside a pressurized chamber. This chamber, which holds up to 10
patients at a time, is the only multi-place chamber in this region.
The pressure in the chamber causes the oxygen you breathe to be
dissolved in your blood. This extra oxygen is used by the body in
many ways. It helps to reduce swelling, control infection and
stimulate the growth of new blood vessels allowing for conditions such
as non-healing wounds to heal when they otherwise would not.
Common medical conditions treated with HBOT include chronic non-healing
diabetic foot wounds, compromised skin grafts, chronic bone infection
and bone/tissue injury resulting from radiation therapy.
HBOT is called an “adjunctive therapy” because it is to be used along
with other forms of treatment your physician has prescribed. Adding HBOT
is proven to significantly increase healing over standard care alone.
Most insurance companies cover hyperbaric oxygen therapy, including
Medicare and Medicaid. We will assist in obtaining verification of
coverage from your insurance company prior to starting treatments.
