Lourdes Anticoagulation Clinic offers improved patient convenience and a streamlined program in an
effort to provide our patients with the best management of your oral anticoagulation therapy. The benefits
of anticoagulation therapy are proven, however, there are risks associated with this therapy. As a patient
of this clinic, we will work together to minimize these risks.
The clinic is staffed by certified anticoagulation management therapy professionals who will provide
comprehensive care and education to you. The clinic offers:
- An assessment with a certified nurse
- Blood testing that can be done right in our office with immediate results
- Based on these immediate results, the nurse will provide further instructions related to your
dose of medicine and follow-up
- Patient education about anticoagulation, possible interactions, possible complications and side effects
Many drugs can increase or decrease the effects of warfarin (Coumadin) which can result in clots or
bleeding. In addition, certain foods containing significant amounts of vitamin K may counteract the
effects of warfarin. Our staff will work with you, your physician and family members to review all medications
being taken, dietary habits and restrictions and discuss any signs or symptoms of possible negative
effects of the anticoagulation therapy. A complete report of each visit to the clinic is available to
the referring physician.
