The Summer Evening Youth Program is based on a need within the community for positive activities for
middle school aged youth throughout the city of Binghamton. The Summer Evening Youth Program provides
safe and meaningful inclusive activities for youth and their families who live in Binghamton. The goal
of the program is to foster positive social interactions, provide opportunities for character development
and enhance a sense of community through various educational, physical, community, and family-focused
activities. The Summer Evening Youth Programs operates for six weeks during the summer to provide a
safe, educational and fun environment through structured activities during the evening hours. The program
serves middle-school aged youth in the Binghamton City School District.
The Summer Evening Youth Program provides a variety of educational and recreational activities for
youth participants. Participants experienced a plethora of recreational activities such as Karate, Dance,
Kickball, Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball, Urban Dance and Tae Bo. Educational activities provided
included presentations on "Positive Choices" by Broome County Gang Prevention, "Basic
Drug Awareness & Prevention" by the Lourdes ADEPT team, and "Positive Self Image"
through Yoga, Pilates, Dancing and a Summer Reading Enrichment Program. The Summer Evening Youth Program
provides a structured environment and healthy activities for youth, during the summer.
