The Student Assistance Program is a school-based prevention counseling
program that operates in 5 schools districts (4 high schools and 1 middle
school). The NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS)
provides certification and oversight for the alcohol and drug prevention
programs operated by Lourdes Youth Services. Five Student Assistance
Counselors work at school sites to provide free prevention counseling
services to students to address issues such as poor attendance, poor
academic performance, alcohol and/or drug use, family and peer problems,
in addition to other services to the school such as staff education and
support.
ADEPT (Alcohol/Drug Education Prevention Team)
The community education portion of the Student Assistance Program is
also known as the Alcohol and Drug Education Prevention Team
(ADEPT). ADEPT is fully funded by NYS OASAS to provide alcohol and
drug education services to Broome County. ADEPT works in
conjunction with schools and other community agencies to provide
prevention education services to youth and families. ADEPT has a
Prevention Specialist and a Prevention Educator providing education to
parents, schools, and community members on a variety of topics related to
alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
