Dental Care for Children and Their Families

.In response to a long-standing community need, Lourdes has established a Center for Oral Health. The Center, located at 219 Front Street in Binghamton, focuses on restoring and maintaining dental health for children and their families.

Services Provided through the Center for Oral Health include:

  • urgent care
  • routine cleanings
  • fillings
  • extractions
  • sealants
  • x-rays
  • fluoride treatments
  • patient education

Services are provided by Dentists and Registered Dental Hygienists.

The Center for Oral Health targets children who are uninsured, on Medicaid or enrolled in New York's Child Health Plus program, a population that is underserved for dental services in the Broome County area.  The Center offers services to self-pay patients using a sliding fee scale.

Although tooth decay is largely preventable, it remains the most common chronic disease of children aged 5 to 17 years. This preventable health problem begins early: 17% of children aged 2-4 years have already had decay. By the age of 8, approximately 52% of children have experienced decay, and by the age of 17, dental decay affects 78% of children. Pain and suffering due to untreated tooth decay can lead to problems in eating, speaking, and attending to learning.

The Center for Oral Health is conveniently located on Front Street next door to the Broome County Health Department. Our facility, which is on the BC Transit bus line, is a street-level building which provides easy access for our patients in wheelchairs or with disabilities.
