The Family Support Program provides prevention programming in
local school districts for families with children in elementary and
middle schools. It offers a holistic family approach which includes
8-10 week multifamily group sessions, case management, and school
to home partnerships.
The program creates a mutual support network for parents and
youth. The program strives to strengthen the parent/youth
relationship by assisting parents in leading discussions with their
children about topics such as alcohol, sexuality, and substance
use.
Weekly sessions engage the entire family in shared activities
such as eating together, playing games, and talking to one
another. A trained team of professionals work with the
parents to reduce the root causes of the most challenging youth
issues, including violence, sexuality, school truancy, alcohol and
drugs use. The team works with the family to increase healthy
communication between parent and child. This empowers parents
as partners in the education process and links families to
community resources by providing a structured environment for
parents and youth to establish a network of support.
