Clothing and Personal Items
On the morning of your surgery, you should shower or bathe. Leave all money and valuables at home.
Do not wear jewelry (body jewelry included) or makeup to the hospital. If you wear contact lenses, bring
your container because you will be asked to remove them. If you have a wedding band, it can remain on
your finger. A nurse will secure it with tape.
Wear loose fitting clothing to the hospital so that you can get your clothes over a bandage when you
go home. For example, eye surgery patients should not wear pull-over shirts and knee surgery patients
should not wear tight trousers or jeans. You may also bring your robe and slippers.
Please do wear your hearing aid and glasses. Dentures may be worn. You may or may not be asked to
remove these personal items.
Ambulatory Surgery
If you have not been contacted by the Hospital, please call (607) 798-5930 from 1pm - 8:30pm, 1-2 working
days prior to your procedure or surgery. In your private room, you will be asked to put on a patient
gown. A nurse will take your vital signs, complete your medical surgery assessment form, review discharge
instructions and complete consent forms. Before the operation, your nurse will ask you to go to the
bathroom and to remove your contact lenses, dentures, etc.
Patient Registration
All inpatients or pediatric patients should report to patient registration where you will be asked
to sign your patient chart and wear a name bracelet for identification. A permit for hospital care must
be signed by a parent or legal guardian for minors. If you have any questions regarding this, call the
patient registration office at (607) 798-5286
Operative Permit
You will be asked to sign several consents: Consent to Treat, Release of Insurance Information, Operative
Permit, Anesthesia Consent, Health Assessment Form, and other applicable forms.
Surgical Triage Area
If your surgery is scheduled to be done in an operating room, you may be taken to the surgical triage
area. The length of time you stay in this area may vary, but someone will always be near should you
need assistance or want to ask a question.
The Operating Room
You will have an intravenous infusion (IV) started and members of the operating room team will be monitoring
your heart and blood pressure throughout your operation. IV's provide a way to give fluids and/or medications
directly into a vein. They also help speed up your recovery period.
Waiting Room for Family
A waiting room near the operating room is available for family members. A staff member is on duty during
the day between the hours of 6:30am and 4pm. We will be better able to keep your family informed if
they let the receptionist know of their whereabouts. After 4pm and on weekends, a nurse in the operating
room will keep your family informed of your progress.
