Welcome to the Lourdes Regional Cancer
Center and Broome Oncology. The Cancer Care Team at Lourdes is very aware of the many emotions
and feelings that a person encounters when diagnosed with cancer. It is our goal to make your
experience with us as positive as possible
Who Are We?
Broome Oncology physicians - Jonathan Kloss, Arun Sheth and Madhuri Yalamanchili - and
their staff to provide Hematology/Oncology services at Lourdes Hospital. The new G. Clifford and
Florence B. Decker Hematology/Oncology Center is located in the DePaul Pavilion on the Lourdes Hospital
campus. Our offices house an infusion center where patients receive their chemotherapy and infusion
therapy in comfortable surroundings. Our clinical laboratory is accredited by New York State and
applies rigid standards to on-site testing. Our oncology nurses help patients and their families
meet everyday challenges at home and at work. Our pharmacist and pharmacy staff prepare chemotherapy
and are always available to answer questions about your treatment and medications.
Chemotherapy means chemical and treatment and is a treatment for cancer. Chemotherapy may be used alone
or in combination with other forms of treatment such as surgery or radiation therapy. The benefits of
chemotherapy differ from patient to patient, as do the side effects. Chemotherapy agents are given in
three primary ways: by mouth, by injection or by infusion into a vein. Most agents are given intravenously
(into a vein). The method of administration, drugs prescribed and frequency of administration vary and
will be guided by your oncologist. Most chemotherapy is given as outpatient treatment but certain protocols
require hospital admission.

Hematology / Oncology
Hematology/Oncology provides care to the patient in both the outpatient clinic
and the inpatient unit. Treatment options include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, transfusion
therapy and consultation and referral services. Lourdes' inpatient and outpatient oncology units are
organized and managed by an oncology nursing staff trained to care specifically for cancer patients.
Pastoral care, nutrition services, and rehabilitation services are also available for both outpatients
and inpatients. Lourdes Regional Cancer Center also maintains a link with the National Cancer Institute's
(NCI) database. This database provides the latest information on research advances and new treatments,
as well as emerging topics on the influence of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle factors
in the development of cancer.
