About the Hope Dispensary

The Dispensary model was founded in 2004 and is sponsored by Saint Thomas Health Services (a member Ascension Health organization) based in Nashville, TN. This model is built upon the concept of pooling sample medications from a healthcare organization or community as well as obtaining bulk distribution of medications from manufacturers and redistributing them to patients in need.

Physicians' offices, distributors, and manufacturers send their donated medications to the program's central distribution center in Nashville, TN. Local dispensaries request medications online from the central warehouse in order to fill local prescriptions for those who meet the eligibility requirements. The centralized inventory system includes a secure web-based program for processing orders, managing inventory, and capturing patient information.
